Train Wreck
I assume all Americans are aware that no train service anywhere in the USA makes money. NOPE, all lose money.
Perhaps this is why Martin County originally fought allowing a high-speed train through our quiet, established communities - rather than using the tracks west of 95 - in un-developed territory? We spent big bucks on lawyers, court fees, etc.
Now, instead of cooler heads prevailing, we see those who believe we (Martin County residents and City of Stuart residents) ought to build a station at OUR expense.
Elon Musk will probably place a man on Mars before we soundly reject at the expense of the City of Stuart or the County of Martin.
Who are our representatives representing? Builders, real estate agents? Oh, they forgot that were elected to represent their constituents - not the 'Robber Barons' of today.
But, if we were in a contest with California, Gavin Newson (Nancy' nephew) would win, hands down. In fifteen years and costs up to 100 billion not one piece of track has been put down. This high-speed train between two large cities in CA - Los Angelos and San Francisco was approved in 2008.
Progressives out there believe gasoline engines are promoting "climate change" even as most literate folks know that the climate swings as a slow-moving pendulum. We know, for example, that back when the cathedral of Notre Dame was under construction (1500s, 1600s) in France there were 300 years of warmth which allowed for construction to continue and crops to grow - providing food for the workers.
I hate to think the old saw: History is designed to repeat itself if no one knows history" is true but the way things are going it sure seems so.
What do you think?
